Make a Pet Feel Lucky, Adopt

DogInGrassWho needs a four-leaf clover or some leprechauns to feel lucky? You know what can make this St. Patrick’s Day lucky for you and for a pet in need? Choose to adopt! Adding a new pet to your household can be an exciting and life-changing time for your family. With many avenues out there for finding pets, adopting a one-of-a-kind pet from your area animal shelter should be at the top of your list. Here are just a few reasons why you should adopt a shelter pet.

You Save Money

Going through a breeder or pet store, you can spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for an animal. At the humane society, you have a bigger variety of animals to choose from and you will pay far less. Plus, with your adoption, you are getting an animal that is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped among other things for each type. For example, we also de-worm, flea-treat, heartworm test and give monthly preventative treatments to all of our dogs. For our cats we also de-worm, test for FELV or FIV and flea-treat them. For the price you are paying, you’re getting a bargain by adopting a shelter animal!

You Save a Life

Whether you are picking an animal from a “high-kill” or “no-kill” animal shelter, the truth remains the same. You are saving a life. By removing this animal from the shelter lifestyle you are giving a homeless animal a second chance at the life they deserve. You are giving them a loving home and a family to call their own. In addition, with your adoption you free up a kennel or cage allowing us to fill it with another animal. So in turn you aren’t just adopting one, but helping another get a second chance at a good life!

You Know Your Pets History

By adopting through a reputable shelter or humane society, you are guaranteed your pet has been given the unconditional love and care needed to be healthy and happy. At our facility, all animals are examined by our veterinarian, spay/neutered and in top-shape prior to adoption. If there are any chronic illnesses with a certain animal, our adoption counselors go over all the information prior to the adoption to ensure the adopter is aware of all challenges that may arise with their new family member.

You Have Many Options

Although baby animals are just adorable, there are plenty of options for breeds and ages of animals at our shelter. If you want a young pet that can grow old with your family, we have those. If you are looking for a calmer more mature pet who will sit by your side and lounge, we have those too. From babies to teens, adults to seniors, there are many types of animals at the shelter to fit with the needs of you or your family and our staff will work with you to find the perfect pet.

You Get Expertise

When you adopt from our shelter, you not only get an amazing furry friend to add to your family, but you also get our staff as a resource for you. From recommendations on a vet to information on what type of food to feed your pet, our staff is well-trained to help people and  pets make the transition from shelter to home as flawless as possible. We are here to work with the adopters to ensure the adoption is successful and fits just right with your needs.

Age: 4 1/2 years old
Type: Dwarf/American
Sex: Male

What Makes Them Special?
Thumper is an adorable little guy that came to our shelter along with many other bunnies after their owner passed away. He's neutered and is quite a tidy fellow with his litter box habits. He's currently in foster care and his foster tells us he's very social, likes to cuddle and really enjoys the times he gets to run and play. His diet consists of timothy hay, pellets and fresh greens daily. His favorite treat? A slice of banana will excite him enough to do a happy dance. Would you like to meet Thumper and see if he's the bunny for you or your family? Please submit a small animal adoption application and let us schedule a time for you to meet him at our shelter. We're certain he'll steal your heart.

Age: 3-years-old
Type: Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Sex: Male

What Makes Them Special?
This gorgeous boy is Dobby! He came all the way from a shelter in Kentucky to find his forever home! You may hear him barking in the kennels but it is only because he wants to come out and see you! Once you get to spend some time with him you will see that he is a calm, gentle, sweet boy who just wants attention. He will gently put his head in your lap and look up at you for snuggles. He loves being pet and being close to you and will make a loyal companion. He's got enough energy to go on a nice walk or hike but also calm enough to cuddle up with you and relax. He has started training here and will receive two free training classes with his adoption so that his new family can see everything he has learned and continue that in the home. He may need to meet any potential "dog siblings" before going home with them. If you think Dobby would be the perfect fit for your home, come on in, fill out an application, and spend some time with him

Sarsaparilla

Age: 4-years-old
Type: Hound/Shepherd mix
Sex: Female

What Makes Them Special?
This sweetheart is Sarsaparilla (a.k.a."Sassy"). She came all the way from a Kentucky shelter to find her forever home! She is a very sweet girl who would make a great addition to any home! She is peppy enough to spend time playing or go on a nice long walk, but calm enough to hang out and relax at home. She is very sweet and pretty calm so would make a great companion to someone looking for an amazing girl to add to their heart and home! She goes to training through the S.T.A.R.T. training program so will receive two free classes with her adoption to maintain and continue training. She has gone to our pet therapy program (where we visit nursing homes and allow them to interact with the dogs), and our book buddies program (where we take dogs to elementary schools to let them read to and interact with the dogs) and she has done very well in those situations! She LOVES snuggling close to you, getting belly rubs, and giving you lots of kisses. Sassy will need to be the only pet in the home as she doesn't get along well with cats or most other dogs. If you think Sarsaparilla would be the perfect addition to your home, come on in, fill out an application, and spend some time with her!
