Empty The Shelters

October 1 @ 1:00 pm - October 4 @ 6:00 pm

Help Cats Find Homes and Save October 1st through 4th

We have partnered with BISSELL Pet Foundation with one goal in mind – to find more cats forever homes! From October 1st through October 4th, BISSELL Pet Foundation is sponsoring a reduced adoption fee at 160 shelters across the country and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is one of them. Let’s empty the shelter and puts cats into loving homes!

How it Works:
1. Visit to find a cat or kitten that you like
2. Fill out an adoption application. If the animal is located at our main shelter, email your application to If the cat you are interested in is at the MeowZa Cat Boutique you can go their directly or email you application to Please make sure to specify the name of which cat or kitten you are interested in adopting
3. Our team will review your application and if it is approved they will call to set up a time for you to come and meet that specific cat on October 1st through the 4th. This is good only on cats at our main shelter (1661 Nicholas Road) and at the MeowZa Cat Boutique (inside the Dayton Mall).
4. If you agree that the cat is your perfect match, you will be asked to fill out a survey along with your final adoption paperwork. When you fill out a survey you will be eligible to be part of the special pricing, which means you will pay just $25 for your adoption. Thanks to our BISSELL Pet Foundation grant, BISSELL Pet Foundation will cover the rest of the fee. If you choose to not fill out the survey, you will not be eligible for the adoption special pricing and will pay the normal adoption fees.

Due to COVID-19, all adoptions at our main shelter are done by appointment only. You will NOT be permitted to come to the main shelter and meet multiple animals. Due to the MeowZa Cat Boutique being located inside the Dayton Mall, it is open to the public, but we are limiting the number of people inside the store at one given time. For the safety of you, our staff and our animals we must limit the number of people in our shelter as well as the number of interactions our pets have with community members.
To be fair, our adoption counselors review applications in the order they are received. The first application that is approved will be the first permitted to adopt. We do continue to accept and review application in case an approved application falls through.
This special event is brought to you thanks to a grant by BISSELL Pet Foundation. It is good only on cats and kittens. If you are interested in adopting another type of animal you can still set up an appointment, but adoption fees are normal. We are planning another event in August, so please make sure to follow our Facebook page as we will announce more details closer to the event.
