11 Reasons to Attend Furry Skury

By: The Humane Society of Greater Dayton

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is celebrating 30 years of its Furry Skurry 5K on Saturday, September 4th and we want you to join us for the fun. As one of the largest animal events in the area, it is a day for you and your furry friends not to miss. Need more of a reason to join? Here are eleven reasons not to pass up on the fun. To register for the event, visit www.hsdayton.org/FS.

  1. You Kick Off 30 Years of Fun

From our walk and run to games, contests, music and more, it is a fun-filled day for you and your family (including your pet) to come out and have a great time for a great cause. Your safety is also at the forefront of our planning and we will have lots of hand sanitizer as well as face masks available for anyone choosing to use them.

  1. You Play Catch with Pancakes

When you register for the event, you also get to participate in our high-flying pancake breakfast. You grab a plate and we will fling your pancake through the air to you to catch on your plate. Don’t worry if you drop it, we have lots of pups willing to pick up the scraps!

  1. You Dress Up Your Pets

Need an excuse to put an adorable costume on your pet? You can participate in our pet costume contest. Contestants will show off their animals and their costumes in front of a crowd and the winner gets one of our amazing prizes!

  1. You Get in Your Workout

We all need to get out and exercise regularly. This is a great opportunity to do just that! Plus, with our event being held at Eastwood MetroPark, you have a great paved trail that takes you right beside some beautiful scenery.

  1. You Can Enjoy the Open Bar

Make sure to sign up as a VIPP (Very Important People and Pets). Not only do you get access to our VIPP tent during the event, but you also get to partake in our open bar for VIPPs. We will have bloody mary’s, mimosas, beer, wine and seltzers for all participants, but for VIPP you can enjoy them at no additional cost.

  1. You Could Win a TV

When you sign up for the race, you have the option to also fundraise for the event. For the top fundraiser, we are giving away a 55-inch flat-screen Samsung television. Watching the latest episode of your favorite show will be so much sweeter knowing you are watching it on a TV you won for helping homeless animals.

  1. You Can Make Your Pet a VIP

This year, we have a Pet VIP option. You don’t have to be the only person enjoying the sWag bag full of goodies. Now, when you register, you can also register your pet as a Pet VIP. They will receive their own sWag bag including a bandana, bone-shaped tennis ball and a commemorative medal they can hang from their collar. You can either sign your pet up individually or, if you sign yourself up as a VIPP, we will include a Pet VIP with your registration.

  1. You Could Make Your Pet Famous

Each year, we select one lucky fundraiser’s pet to be our Poster Pet for the following year. To see your pet’s face plastered on all marketing materials for this event, you need to fundraise a minimum of $500 for the event. For each $250 you raise after the initial $500, you will receive another entry into the drawing. We draw the winner at the event and your pet will get a whole photoshoot before the 2022 Furry Skurry 5K.

  1. You Could Win Reds Tickets

If you love baseball, you could win four Cincinnati Reds tickets from us. All you have to do is enter by the end of August and we will automatically enter you into the drawing. The winner of the drawing will be announced on September 1st and posted to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s Facebook page.

  1. You Can Turn Your Pet into an Artist

Bring your pet and stop into the Painted Pawjects booth at the event. The talented team at Barstools and Brushstrokes will turn your pet’s paw prints into works of art! Who knew you had the next Picasso right on your leash!

  1. You are a Superhero for Animals

One of the most important reasons to participate is the animals you are helping to save. You may think your registration is just a way to have fun with your friends and family, but we see you as a superhero. Your support helps the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and supports programs that keep animals healthy, safe and in loving forever homes. To us, you are all the superheroes in the lives of our animals and we are so grateful for you!
