The Humane Society of Greater Dayton (HSGD) is proud to be a no-kill organization that has been serving the animals and people of the Miami Valley since 1902. The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is currently looking for a part-time Foster Coordinator.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruiting, training, and mentoring fosters (humans) individually and in groups, so when we have an animal in need of foster care, they are ready to take in an animal.
- Sending out foster booster appointment reminders and keeping up to date booster records
- Enter vaccine information into ShelterLuv and keeping files organized
- Helping foster coordinator maintain foster hours data
- Maintain foster holding area (keeping stocked and organized)
- Manage the foster animals in our care from intake, booster vaccines, scheduling surgery, and getting them to adoption events.
- Sending booster, surgery, and event reminders to foster caregivers
- Discussing and preparing supplies required by foster homes
- Preparing cages in advance in foster holding with appropriate cage cards
- Cleaning and feeding animals in foster care when necessary
- Preparing supplies in advance, such as food and litter
- Preparing cage cards and charts prior to surgery and ensuring they are ready for vet staff
- Setting up cages for fosters coming back to the shelter
- Assisting with restraining animals for vaccines or blood draws
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Excellent public relations skills. Ability to form and maintain professional relationships.
- Excellent verbal, written and observational skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Professional in appearance and behavior.
- Must be a goal-oriented self-starter.
- Confident computer skills including experience with Google Apps, Microsoft Word, Excel, social media, databases, internet navigation, and research.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving and criminal abstract.
- Must have a passion for animals and support the mission of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton
- Must treat animals humanely, with love and concern both on and off the job, and transmit these values to others.
- General knowledge of pet behavior and care. Ability to work with and handle all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.
- Positive attitude
- Prior background in animal welfare or related
