Luke & Ike

By: The Humane Society of Greater Dayton

Weak. Malnourished. Two walking skeletons. That is how the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s humane agent found Luke and Ike, two senior Percheron horses. You could run your hand across their sides and feel every rib, every bone in their fragile bodies.

After spending time working with the owner to help these horses, it was determined it would be better to move them to a rescue specializing in draft horses. There, this bonded pair thrived. In less than a year, between the two of them, they gained more than 1,000 pounds.

Once they finally healed, after the years of neglect, Luke and Ike made one final trip – to a sanctuary where they could live the rest of their lives in comfort and surrounded by love. Luke and Ike were moved to sunny Florida where they could spend their days galloping through the pasture. Inseparable as always, these brothers got their second chance.
