It was a hot summer day when our Humane Agent received a report about cats that were being kept in a storage facility in Dayton. With temperatures rising quickly, our agent immediately went to the storage unit where she could smell ammonia coming from the unit in question.
Our officer quickly rushed to get a search warrant and opened up the storage unit to find nine cats being housed inside. This was not a temperature-controlled storage unit and by the time we got there it was already 108.6 degrees inside. Two of the nine cats were very small kittens. Thankfully, despite the heat and lack of water, all nine cats were alive. We removed these cats from the unit and brought them to our shelter where they received top-notch care by our talented veterinary team. Charges were filed against the storage unit owner and all of the cats, including Darling, entered into our adoption program. We are so thankful for the person who reported this to us because if these animals had been left for much longer in this storage facility the outcome could have been much worse.
