It’s not every day you get a stray pig, and it’s e It’s not every day you get a stray pig, and it’s even rarer to see one reunited with their family, especially right before closing! 🐖💛 Today, this little adventurer wandered in as a stray, but his owner had the whole neighborhood on high alert and out looking for him. Before we could even finish our end-of-day routine, he was safely back in the arms of the people who love him most. The happy snorts and wagging tail made the perfect ending to our day. Douglas has already survived more than most dogs e Douglas has already survived more than most dogs ever should… and somehow, he’s still one of the happiest, goofiest boys you’ll ever meet. 🤍 When Douglas first came to us, he was painfully thin, trying to make it through winter with nothing. No steady meals, no warm place to land, just doing everything he could to survive. Thanks to one of our incredible fosters, Douglas got the chance to heal. With patience, good meals, and a safe place to land, he slowly gained weight, strength, and trust again. We truly can’t thank our fosters enough for giving dogs like Douglas that second chance. And now, you would never know that is where he started. He is filled out, strong, and his personality has fully come to life. He gets the zoomies, leans in for affection, and proudly shows off cozy sweaters like a pro. He is crate trained, potty trained, and just a really, really good dog. Which makes this part especially hard to say. Douglas has been back in the kennels, waiting for a while now. He watches other dogs head home while he is still here, and we know his person is out there. They just have not found him yet. He does not need anything fancy. Just consistency, warmth, and someone who means it when they say forever. If you have been thinking about adopting, please come meet him. And if you can't, sharing his story could be the thing that changes everything for him. He has done the hard part. Recently these two incredible kids came in to work on their reading skills and provide some company to our shelter pups! 🐶📚 How it works: • Sign up at hsdayton.org/book-buddies • Check in at the front desk • Choose a book or bring your own • Grab a towel and name tag • Read aloud to a dog or cat with a parent present.
