HSGD Family we need your help!! Please share Bret' HSGD Family we need your help!! Please share Bret's info below! He is our longest resident at the shelter and we want him to ring in the new year with a new home!!

Meet Bret. He is a shelter legend, professional people-lover and full-time goofball.

Bret has officially earned the title of longest resident, and honestly, we’re still confused how this guy hasn’t been scooped up yet. Named in memory of a cherished Humane Society supporter, Bret is carrying on that legacy by spreading joy to every human he meets.

Strangers? Not a thing. Bret believes everyone is his friend and greets them with full-body enthusiasm. He’s convinced he’s a lap dog, will flop dramatically for belly rubs, and takes his role as Chief Snuggle Officer very seriously.

When he’s not charming the socks off everyone, Bret is busy being a model student. He’s currently crushing START training through the Dayton Dog Training Club, mastering basic commands and showing off his agility skills. He’s smart, motivated and loves having a job to do.

Bret is looking for a home where he can be the one and only pet and soak up all the attention for himself. No roommates needed — he prefers to be the star of the show and would thrive in a home with a big backyard and plenty of room to run, play and show off his moves.

If you’re searching for a loyal, hilarious, people-obsessed companion who will keep you laughing and never let you feel alone, Bret is ready to take that spot in your life.

He’s waited long enough. Let’s make Bret’s “longest resident” era come to an end. To fill out an application on Bret, visit our website at www.hsdayton.org/adopt.
We have said it once and we will continue to say i We have said it once and we will continue to say it again and again! 2025 was a fantastic year! We ended the year breaking records with 2,915 animals finding forever homes! In just December alone, 290 animals were welcomed into loving families thanks to all of you! This included not just cats and dogs, but also guinea pigs, rabbits ferrets and a hamster. As the only shelter in our area helping all types of animals, we are honored that you all support our pets and our mission and can't wait to shatter this year's record again in 2026! If you are looking to welcome a pet into your home, visit www.hsdayton.org/adopt and check out all the available animals we currently have up for adoption.

Carmello is a 6-month-old male Rex rabbit with an incredibly soft coat and a gentle, easygoing personality. Like many young rabbits, he can be a little nervous at first, but with patience and kindness, he’s sure to come out of his shell and make a wonderful companion. 💙

Carmello is currently waiting for his forever home. You can learn more about him and our other adoptable small animals at hsdayton.org/adopt/small-animals.

A huge thank you to @dayton247now for their continued support of all the animals in our care, including sweet Carmello, as they wait for loving homes. 🐾✨
