The Power of Volunteering
Last year alone, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s dedicated volunteers and foster families donated nearly 133,000 hours to help our animals. That’s the equivalent of having an additional 64 full-time staff members on hand! This incredible force of compassion plays a vital role in the well-being of countless animals, helping them find loving forever homes.
Find Your Perfect Fit
Whether you’re an individual or a group, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton has a volunteer opportunity waiting for you. Here are just a few of the opportunities we have available:
- Canine Crew – exercise, socialize and/or clean dog enclosures at the shelter
- Cat Cab – help transport adoptable cats to offsite adoption locations
- Donations Pick Up – manage donation boxes at local businesses or pick up in-kind donations from stoes
- Feline Friends – exercise, socialize and/or clean enclosures for the cats at our shelter
- MeowZa Cat Boutique – assist our mall adoption storefront in day-to-day store operations including cleaning cat cages, helping with adoptions and helping customers
- Office Angels – support the staff at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton with data entry or other clerical work
- Offsite Event Assistant – help our offsite event coordinator by handling adoptable animals and talking to the public at adoption events
- Paw-Parazzi – capture great photographs of the animals available for adoption at our shelter to use for marketing them on our website
- Pawde Squad – help clean cat and dog enclosures on an ongoing or on-call basis
- Pet Therapy – provide temporary animal companionship for residents of assisted living and senior centers
- START Training Team – take dogs to the Dayton Dog Training Club and work with them to teach basic obedience skills
- Shelter Transport – transport adoptable animals from other, usually open-intake shelters to bring them to Humane Society of Greater Dayton
- Spay & Neuter Assistant – work with the spay and neuter clinic to make appointment calls, complete date entry and more
