Placing Unsocialized Cats Into Non-Traditional Homes

Through our Working Cat Program, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton works with individuals and companies to place unsocialized cats into non-traditional homes. These cats are mostly feral or semi-feral and do not do well in a home environment, but they are still wonderful and healthy cats. Some places that can benefit from a working cat include:

  • Farms
  • Nurseries or greenhouses
  • Warehouses
  • Breweries
  • Junkyards
  • Workshops

They can benefit your facility by providing you with environmentally-friendly rodent control. All they ask in return from you is daily food, water, and a safe shelter away from the elements or other wildlife.

The Responsibility of the Owner

If you choose to adopt a working cat from us, you would be responsible for providing them with daily food and clean water, proper shelter, and veterinary care if needed. All of our working cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ear-tipped prior to being placed in your new location.

The staff and volunteers at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton are happy to work with you to provide guidance to make the brief transition from our shelter to your location a success. If you like more information on welcoming a working cat into your facility, please contact us below.
