As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day, we wa As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day, we want to remind everyone that July 4th is the top day of the year for pets to go missing or escape. Fireworks, cookouts, and large gatherings can cause stress and panic for our furry friends.

That’s why the Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to partner with @petcolovelost —a FREE, innovative tool that uses facial recognition technology to help reunite lost pets with their families.

Lost or found a pet?
Head to hsdayton.org/lost to add your report to the Petco Love Lost database.

Just upload a photo and let their powerful system do the matching—linking lost and found pets through shelters, neighbors, and community apps like Ring and Nextdoor.

Before the fireworks start, make sure your pet has proper ID and explore this free tool—it could be the key to bringing your pet home faster.

Not all cats dream of windowsills and lap naps—s Not all cats dream of windowsills and lap naps—some prefer a job with purpose! Meet our Working Cats—fierce mousers with a wild side who may not thrive in a traditional home but are still incredible, deserving companions.

These independent felines are perfect for barns, warehouses, garages, greenhouses, workshops, or other secure, non-traditional spaces where they can live their best lives on their terms—while helping you keep pests in check.

*They come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ready to report for duty.
*All they ask in return is food, water, shelter, and a little space to roam.

Give a hardworking cat a second chance at life—while gaining a loyal, low-maintenance employee!

✨ Comet, the Sweet Hospice Senior with So Much L ✨ Comet, the Sweet Hospice Senior with So Much Love Left to Give ✨

Meet Comet, our gentle 11-year-old Boxer with a heart bigger than his years. He may be in his golden days, but do not let that silver muzzle fool you, this boy still has plenty of spunk and tail wags to share!

Comet is the perfect buddy for slow strolls around the yard and cozy afternoons snuggled on the couch. He loves his short walks, but sometimes his legs give out on him, so he needs a patient friend to help him rest and get back up when he needs it. His arthritis and weakness in his back legs mean he is a hospice adoption, but that just makes every cuddle and every moment together even more special.

At this age, Comet knows exactly what he wants and that is all your love to himself. He would do best as the only pet in the home since he has become a little selective about other animals in his golden years (and honestly, who can blame him?)

Thanks to a generous sponsorship from The Grey Muzzle Organization, Comet’s adoption fee is completely waived. Our Dayton Humane Veterinary Hospital will also provide his new family with one free wellness exam, and he will go home with all his current medication to help keep him comfortable.

This sweet old man deserves a soft bed, gentle hands, and someone to remind him every single day that he is truly loved. If you are ready to be Comet’s hospice hero, come meet him during our open hours or apply at hsdayton.org/adopt. You can also reach out to our adoption team with any questions at adoptions@hsdayton.org.

Let’s make sure Comet’s final chapter is filled with everything he has ever dreamed of. 🐾💛
