FeLV is only one chapter in a cat’s story—not the FeLV is only one chapter in a cat’s story—not the whole story. Cats with FeLV can still live joyful, affectionate lives and deserve loving homes just like any other cat. A positive diagnosis doesn’t change who they are—it simply means they may need a little extra care and compassion.

Learn more about FeLV and how we test and care for cats with this condition at the Dayton Humane Veterinary Hospital.

Visit our shelter or MeowZa! Cat Boutique (HSGD) to meet our adoptable cats in person, or browse all available cats at hsdayton.org/adopt/cats.

We are incredibly honored to share that the Humane We are incredibly honored to share that the Humane Society of Greater Dayton has been named the 2026 Business of the Year by the City of Centerville during this morning’s Mayor’s Breakfast.

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Brooks Compton, Centerville leadership, and the entire community for welcoming and embracing our mission. This recognition reflects not only the work happening every day at the Humane Society, but also the compassion and support of a community that believes in helping both pets and the people who love them.

Our Dayton Humane & Co. resale boutique and MeowZa Cat Boutique are more than storefronts — they are direct extensions of our mission. Every purchase, donation, and adoption helps provide lifesaving care, veterinary services, pet support resources, cruelty investigations, and second chances for thousands of animals throughout the Miami Valley.

In 2025 alone, we helped nearly 3,000 animals find loving homes, completed more than 9,000 spay and neuter surgeries, expanded access to care for pet owners across the region, and continue working every day to keep pets in safe and loving homes whenever possible.

“This honor belongs to our entire community,” said Brian Weltge, President & CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. “Together, we are creating a future where pets and people can thrive side by side.”

Thank you, Centerville, for this incredible recognition and for believing in our mission.
Out of more than 130 small animals rescued from a Out of more than 130 small animals rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, Skiploom the last rabbit waiting for a home. 💔

While so many of the others have already found their fresh start, this gentle boy is still here, quietly hoping someone will see just how special he is.

Skiploom’s world has not always been kind or easy. Because of his vision impairment and lack of socialization in his previous environment, new places and new people can feel overwhelming at first. He’s the kind of rabbit who may tuck himself into a cozy corner until he feels safe enough to come out and say hello. And honestly? We don’t blame him one bit.

What Skiploom needs most is someone patient. Someone who understands that trust is earned slowly and that the best relationships are sometimes the ones you build little by little. 🐰

And once you do? You’ll discover the sweetest little soul.

This boy LOVES gentle pets once he warms up to you, and despite his imperfect eyesight, his snack-detecting abilities are truly elite. Crinkle a treat bag anywhere nearby and suddenly Skiploom becomes a professional investigator with a twitching nose and full determination to locate the snacks immediately. 😂

After everything he’s been through, we would love nothing more than for Skiploom to finally know what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and home. ❤️

Interested in adopting Skiploom? Learn more about him at hsdayton.org/adopt/small-animals

Ok, we get it... Hammy is missing a whole hammy. 😅 Ok, we get it... Hammy is missing a whole hammy. 😅

You might look at a pup with three legs and think, "That's going to be a lot of extra time, energy, and medical care." But we are here to tell you that is just not the case.

While Hammy might be down a limb, he can absolutely keep up with all the fun. He gets the zoomies just like any other dog, and he is fantastic with children and loves other dogs (even tiny puppies!). Honestly, you could say he has a "leg up" when it comes to just how sweet, loving, and friendly he is. 😉

Since Hammy is fully healed, he doesn't require any more day-to-day care than a standard pup. His only "special need" is keeping him at a healthy weight to prevent any extra stress on his joints as he gets older. Easy peasy!

Hammy is ready to find his forever family and bring a whole lot of love into your life. ❤️ Stop by the shelter during open hours to meet him, or fill out an application at hsdayton.org/adopt/dogs
